Financial institutions operating in Burundi (2012-2016)

From 2012 to 2016, the number of financial institutions increased by 36.3%. Financial institutions are classified in two categories: commercial banks and financial institutions, as well as microfinance institutions and the national post office. In 2016, out of 45 institutions, financial institutions had 33. Nevertheless, as of december 31, 2016, 83% of financial institutions had their head offices in Bujumbura city, of which 86.36% were in Mukaza commune.
