Three members of Frodebu party are in police custody since Tuesday 20 March 2019. They are accused of having beaten the Imbonerakure- youth affiliated to the ruling party-CNDD-FDD on Sunday 17 March 2019.
The police say some youths affiliated to the ruling party have reported that three members of Frodebu party have ill-treated and beaten them on Sunday, adding that investigations into this case are underway. Félix Ndirikirirenza, chairman of Frodebu party in Makamba province, says the arrested members have not beaten CNDD-FDD youths. For him, it’s all about political intolerance. While Frodebu members were holding a legal meeting, some Imbonerakure wanted to participate but were not “peacefully” allowed to do so, says Mr.Ndirikirirenza adding that he was surprised to learn that Frodebu members were later arrested. “
This is just political intolerance. Political diversity should be reinforced and the youth should be allowed to adhere to the party of their choice without being persecuted,” he says. This chairman of Frodebu party in Makamba province appeals to the administration and police to release the arrested people and let all the legally agreed political parties to prepare for 2020 elections. The members of Sahwanya Frodebu were holding a meeting on Sunday 17 March 2019 in Gitaba area in Makamba commune of Makamba province in the south of the country.
