Jacques Roy
Jacques Roy passed away on Wednesday, 31 August at 10 am; he is victim of cardiac arrest. He was attending a UNHCR meeting with other heads of United Nations Agencies when he was taken ill.
He retreated to a side room and after the first aids on the spot, he was urgently evacuated to Kira hospital at Kinindo for intensive care. He was in critical condition.
It was after an hour that the doctor who was treating him gave the sad news. The director and WFP representative in Burundi died of a heart attack. According to sources contacted from WFP, he was in good health and was returning from a vacation.
A Canadian national, Jacques Roy had just spent a year in Burundi as the World Food Programm representative.
