Ten killed and 5 shops destroyed in road crash in Gashikanwa commune

At least ten people were killed when the World Food Program truck from Tanzania missed its way after brake failure on the national road (RN6) at around 9:00 a.m. this Thursday, April 26.

The accident occurred on Rwizingwe Hill in Gashikanwa Commune of Ngozi Northern Province.

A witness of the accident whose shop was destroyed said the truck missed its way when its driver tried to overtake another car and lost control of it.

Antoine Ntemako, Director General of the Civil Protection Police, says the death toll could increase over time. “10 people are already reported dead, 3 injured and 5 shops have been destroyed,” he says adding that the number of damage can still increase at any time.

He says the injured people were rushed to Ngozi Hospital by the Red Cross.

The driver of the truck was a victim of the accident among some other people who were in the area where the accident occurred .

The truck was carrying corns of the World Food Program.

In the afternoon, the Civil Protection Police Unit, the Red Cross and the population from the neighborhood were still trying to remove the truck but it was difficult as it was raining heavily.
