Negotiations took place in the Ombudsman’s office and lasted about one hour. Journalists were not allowed to follow the process. Eric Ngendahayo, the Vice Chairman of the Administration Council of the Port: “The Ombudsman suggested that negotiations should be the priority in order to develop the Bujumbura port and the working conditions. We consented and expect a good result. The workers are also satisfied and have consented to resume their job.”
Ernest Mutunge, the Chairman of the workers’ syndicate is optimistic about the future and appreciates the assurance of the mediator to follow-up on every step of the negotiations.
