Thaddée Ndikumana, Minister of Public Health has said all passengers from China, France, Spain, Japan, Iran, South Korea, German and Italy will be kept in quarantine at ‘Source du Nil’ hotel in Bujumbura city for 14 days, from 6 March. “The decision has been taken to prevent any case that may come from those infected countries”, he said.
The Minister also said passengers from those countries will be welcomed by health workers operating at Bujumbura International Airport ‘Melchior Ndadaye”. “They are aware of this decision”, he said. Mr. Ndikumana exhorted Burundians to remain calm as there is no case of COVID-19 already reported in Burundi so far. “Hygienic measures must be fully respected,” he said. The Public Health Minister called on Burundians to limit their trips to those countries. “If not, they should be temporarily suspended,” he said.
On 3 March, the World Health Organization’s office in Burundi has officially handed over the Ebola Treatment Center (CTE) to the Ministry of Health. Thaddée Ndikumana indicated that the center located in Mudubugu area in Mutimbuzi commune in Bujumbura province will welcome people infected by coronavirus.
