In the night of July 1st, a woman was killed in Kajiji locality of Kanyosha zone in Bujumbura city along National Road 3-RN3.

“It was around 9 pm when I heard gunshots. I could not go out because I was afraid. Today morning, we have realized that a woman was shot here,” says one resident who lives near the place adding that the police conducted a search at home and in the neighbors’ houses in the morning.
According to local sources, the victim, aged around 26, is from Ceceni, a neighborhood not far from Kajiji locality. They say she might have been killed by a policeman due to some misunderstandings. The corpse was evacuated in the same night, people add.
The police arrested some people living around the place and took them to the zone office. However, they were released shortly after.
The chief of Kajiji area confirms the death of the woman. However, he denies that some people have been arrested in his locality. He says the identification of the deceased is not yet known. The same chief also says the criminals have not yet been identified and investigations are still ongoing.
