Révérien Ndikuriyo, the president of the Senate, has said Burundians are learning to live on their own without begging. “This is the very first time Burundi has organized elections without asking for foreign assistance. Cndd-Fdd party supports democracy and independence and the new constitution is the foundation of an independent and democratic Burundi,” Révérien Ndikuriyo said.

The leader of the Senate also said Burundi is free to take decisions as an independent country and no foreigners should raise concerns over that. “Foreigners have their own constitutions and are free to amend them. They should not raise voices if Burundians decide to change the country’s constitution”.
He has called on Burundians to vote for the referendum saying it is one way of showing foreigners that they are responsible for their fate.

The senate speaker has also reminded Burundians about different crises that Burundi has suffered due to foreigners’ invasion. “On 21 August 1925, Belgians introduced ethnic divisions among Burundians. In 1961, foreigners killed our independence hero…It is high time we valued and prioritized people’s opinions and the new constitution is the right opportunity,” he said.

Ndikuriyo also said the new constitution clarifies some points that were the subject of confusion and misunderstanding in 2015. “Articles 96 and 302 of the constitution that caused confusion and disagreements have been removed and others were edited,” he said.

Some other authorities from Cndd- Fdd party like Evelyne Butoyi, Minister of Youth, post and information technology, Jean Marie Niyokindi, Minister of commerce, industry and tourism and Gabriel Ntisezerana, former Senate leader have participated in that campaign that was held in Rusaka commune of Mwaro province.
