The newly appointed commission chaired by Pierre Claver Kazihise, took the oath one by one pledging to conduct free fair and transparent elections and to behave as patriots. “In front of the President of the Republic, in front of the Parliament, invested with the mandate of Burundians, the only holder of the national sovereignty, I … I swear fidelity to the charter of the national unity, the constitution as well as the law and I undertake to hold the elections in complete independence with probity, impartiality and a keen sense of patriotism”.

After the pronunciation of this text, right hand raised and the left holding the Burundian and unity flags, the seven members went one by one to sign the agreement.

Former members of the CENI and the new team proceeded with the handover this afternoon. Among the important documents that the former chairman gave to the new one include the data for previously registered voters and voter management software used in 2018.

The 7 members of CENI were approved on August 29 while MPs from “Amizero y’Abarundi” were absent although they were present in the swearing-in ceremonies.
