National land commission says lies and fake documents hamper its work

Dieudonné Mbonimpa, Spokesperson for the National Commission for Lands and other Properties-CNTB says several obstacles hinder the achievements of the commission.
“Lies, fake testimonies and documents slow down the work of the commission,” he says. For him, it becomes difficult to verify some documents as the stubs of some files disappeared in the archives of the various services of the country.

Mr. Mbonimpa also says some people claim their immovable and movable properties without documents proving that they belong to them. “The commission must help them to obtain these documents,” he says.
CNTB has undertaken a sensitization campaign towards all the people involved in the land related conflicts to support the commission. “All the sessions on land dispute settlement must begin with peace education and peaceful coexistence”, he says adding that the commission will focus on Makamba and Rumonge provinces in the south of the country where it has many land related files.

On 30 June, the commission said it has 20452 pending files including 18120 files at the level of provincial offices and 2332 files at the level of the sub-commissions of appeal. “All of them must be processed in three years,” says Mr Mbonimpa.
