Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has temporarily resigned as president to appear before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on Wednesday October 8, leaving power to Deputy President William Ruto. Kenyatta would have been the first active head of state to appear before the ICC.He is facing charges of crimes against humanity, relating to the violence that followed the 2007 elections. More than 1300 Kenyans were killed.
The ICC is set to hold the first of two days of hearings to set a date for the Kenyatta trial to begin. Acting President Ruto also faces charges in the Hague.
