Imbonerakure injured CNL member with spear in Muyinga

Joseph Nyabenda, a member of the opposition party National Congress for Liberty (CNL), was wounded with a spear in the chest by members of the youth league of the ruling party CNDD-FDD. The incident took place on 31 May evening in Sanzwe locality in Munagano area, in Muyinga commune of Muyinga province in the northeast of Burundi

“Nyabenga crossed a barrier erected by the Imbonerakure, also members of the mixed security committees when he went into the bush to harvest medicinal plants. These CNDD-FDD youths therefore attacked him and injured him with a spear, “reports a source on the spot mentioning that the police arrested some of the attackers including a representative of the Imbonerakure in Sanzwe locality. “All of them were later released,” said the same source.

The victim was taken to hospital and then returned home and continue treatment. The administrator of Muyinga commune said that he was not aware of this crime.
