A woman of four children from Gitara area in Mugamba Commune of Bururi Province in the south of Burundi says she has been kicked out of her house by her husband. The cause is that she gives birth to boys only. She asks to be reinstated in her rights.
Yvette Nshimirimana, a mother of four little boys including a one-week-old baby, has not been living with her husband since the night of March 24, 2019. Her husband sent her packing after torturing her. She is accused of giving birth to boys only. “When he came back home from pub on Saturday night, he beat me up accusing me of giving his phone battery to his brother and forced me to leave his house.”
He beat me until I went to my parents’ home, says Nshimirimana, adding that she is being mistreated because her husband has a concubine.
“He kicked me out to live with a girl he has just impregnated.” Mrs. Nshimirimana says her husband wants to have daughters.
She asks to be reinstated in her rights. “I wish to return to my home to raise my children with my husband in peace and harmony,” says Nshimirimana.
Albert Mbanyenimana, the neighbor of the couple says that he had many times advised Nshimirimana’s husband not to abuse his wife, but to no avail. “Children are a gift from God, He should obey the will of God,” he says.
Frederic Ndayirukiye, chief of Gitara area indicates that the issue has been submitted to the administrator of Mugamba commune, explaining that he failed to solve the problem alone. “Her husband is insolent. We hope that the administrator will convince him to let his wife live in peace,” he says.
