There will be two direct flights a week on Tuesday and Friday. A round- trip ticket Bujumbura-Dubai is currently $399 for economy class and $1100 for business class.
Salau, Commercial Director of Flydubai in charge of the East African region indicates that the choice for Burundi was made because it takes only five hours flight time. “We also take the potentialities of Burundi into account and the fact that Burundi didn’t have a direct flight from Burundi-Dubai before.”
A delegate from the Bujumbura International Airport Directorate General says that the new operation of the Flydubai Company is the result of the negotiations between the Government of Burundi and the United Arab Emirates. An agreement was signed in Canada during the 38th Assembly of the Civil Aviation Organization, in September last year.
Virginie Ciza, Minister of Transports, mentions that it is an honor for Burundi and that it shows the good relationship between the two countries.
“Considering that the Burundian economy is increasing at a satisfying rhythm, the launching of this direct flight to Dubai will be an opportunity for Burundi to improve the economy, to increase the number of tourists and cultural exchanges as well as diplomatic relationships between the two countries. I hope that the number of travelers will increase considerably on both sides”, she says.
