Five CNL members arrested in Gihanga, sources report

The police arrested in the evening of May 21, five members of the National Congress for Liberty –CNL opposition party in village 4 in Gihanga commune of Bubanza province in the west of Burundi. Five arrested people including the representative of this party in Gihanga are currently detained in police custody, according to sources on the spot who indicate that they have been accused of holding an illegal meeting.

CNL members deny the accusations arguing that the arrested people were sitting together, chatting and bickering. They demand that their colleagues be released. Police sources say that they have been arrested for investigative reasons. Contacted, Léopold Ndayisaba, administrator of Gihanga says he does not know many details about the arrest of these five CNL members and promises to take in the situation.
