Elections 2020: Defense, security forces to ensure ballot security

The army and the police will provide security for 14,665 voting centers the day of presidential, legislative and communal council elections scheduled for May 20, 2020.

The measure was taken during the meeting organized on 28 April by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the regional and provincial police officials. They must also protect voters and the agents of polling stations.

During this session, CENI carried out a voting simulation to make them understand how the presidential, legislative and municipal elections will be held.

Each election will have a separate colored card and the polling station official must ensure that the card is put in the appropriate ballot box. Some security officials asked if voters can have another card of they have misused their cards. Pierre Claver Kazihise, CENI chairman replied that they have no chance to get another card. Gitega leads with 1,275 voting centers and the last is Cankuzo with 457 centers.
