CNL party denounces persecution of its member in Bujumbura

Aimable Ndayishimiye, a member of the National Congress for Freedom-CNL was found in a critical condition in the morning of 23 July near CNL office in Buterere neighborhood of Bujumbura city. “He was seriously tortured and injured. He is now receiving treatment”, says Térence Manirambona, spokesperson for CNL party.

He says Aimable Ndayishimiye was abducted on 22 July by unknown people around 5 p.m. near CNL office in Mutanga Nord of Ntahangwa commune in the north of the Burundian economic capital. “He had attended a meeting organized by the party. When he went out to buy airtime, he was suddenly abducted by unknown people,” says Manirambona. The search for the missing member was conducted in vain.

On 23 July around 1a.m., he responded to a call of one his friends. “Aimable Ndayishimiye told him that he had been abducted by unknown people who took him to Buterere area,” says CNL spokesperson adding that he was finally found in the morning of 23 July near CNL office in Buterere neighborhood.

Térence Manirambona calls upon competent authorities to conduct serious investigations to identify those abductors. “Each person has the right to move freely throughout the country,” says Manirambona adding that such abduction cases are often reported to administrative officials for investigations. Iwacu has tried to contact Buterere and Ntahangwa administrative officials for more details but to no avail.
