“Out of 31 people who were infected by cholera in Cibitoke district, 11 have now recovered and fortunately no one died”, says Dr Thaddée Ndikumana, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.

He says the situation is under control, the program for fight against epidemic diseases has enough medications. “Patients are treated freely and the Red Cross is helping us disinfect their houses in order to protect others”, he says.

“We urge people especially in the most affected areas (Mparambo I and II, Gabiro Ruvyagira and Munyika) to follow hygienic conditions such as washing their hands before eating, drinking  boiled water, cleaning toilets consistently, doing the dishes with a soap…etc”, says the spokesman of the Public Health Ministry.

Cases of people infected by cholera have been recorded since Friday 29th December 2016 .The main cause of the disease in Cibitoke province is the shortage of water in the area which pushes people to drink and use dirty water from the Nyakagunda River.
