Harambee Starlets went down 0-1 against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in an international friendly match played at MISC Kasarani Stadium in Kenya on Saturday 22nd October.
This was the first loss for harambee starlets since 20th September in the Cecafa Women Championship finals which was held in Jinja, Uganda where they lost 2-1 to Tanzania.
Christine Mannie scored from the spot kick in the 65th minute putting the visitors infront.
The Kenyan women team started so well with high speed in the first opening minutes of the match when they hold Cameroon firmly to their half.
Starlets were very strong and by the tenth minute they should have been ahead but lead striker Neddy Atieno failed to hit the target.
After going without a goal in the first half the Cameroon women came back stronger and this when Jack Ogol and Irene Ogutu were brought in to strengthen starlets.
The Kenyan fans started being anxious when the visitors, Batoum Ngo and Akaba Itinriette started playing with confidence.
This friendly match happened to sharpen the women’s skills ahead of the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) that is less than a month away.
They were in a mission to remind each other of what to expect if they meet in the forthcoming AWCON completion.
Kenya has never beaten Cameroon in their encounters.
“Kenya is a good place. They must have had some preparations and they dint make it easy for us. we both should work very hard in the coming weeks.” Said the Cameroon Coach, Eno Nagchu.
