The legal representative of Buterere Technical School was arrested this December 25, 2018. The ministry of education accuses him of disappearing with the students’ files.
Edouard Juma, spokesman for the ministry of education says Buterere Technical School legal representative disappeared during the investigation into the cheating case that occurred in his school. He also says this school authority ran away with the final year students’ files. “He evaded with the files of the final year students who were supposed to get their diplomas in September,” he says adding that even the file of the student who cheated during the national exam was not available to allow the smooth running of the investigation. Mr. Juma says those final year students have staged a sit-in in front of the office of the ministry of education asking for their diplomas. “This has created a climate of mistrust between the ministry and students”.
The education ministry spokesman also says the legal representative of that school has changed the school name without informing the ministry of education. “He changed the school name without following the legal procedures. The former Buterere Technical School has become Christa Technical School and the latter is not recognized by the ministry of education”. He calls on parents to be careful and not let their children register at that school which is not legally recognized. “Parents have to be careful lest their children be the victims. They won’t receive any document to certify their education because the school is not officially known by the ministry”.
In August, the headmaster of Buterere technical school disguised himself as student and sat for the national exam for another registered student. After that, the ministry of education tried to get in touch with the legal representative of this school in vain.
