“Anyone who will attempt to overthrow government elected institutions will always be victim of their actions,” said President Pierre Nkurunziza, on Monday 20 August, in a speech to the nation, three years after he was elected president in 2015.
According to him, Burundi is progressing in terms of multiparty system: “We are conforming ourselves to the system. He refers to the recent constitutional referendum, adding that Burundians funded it themselves and organized it in a transparent, peaceful and safe way.
“Burundians know where they come from and where they are going. Their contribution to 2020 elections is the proof. The country gave them everything. They understood the necessity to give back to it for the good of the future generations,” he says.
President Nkurunziza thanks all those who made effort so that the victory achieved in 2015 prevails throughout the country. He calls on government institutions to do their best so as to make that victory profitable for all Burundians without exception.
The President of Burundi also says he is committed to reconciling Burundians, fighting corruption and joining the world in the fight against terrorism.
