Ezéchiel Nibigira, Minister of Foreign Affairs says visa applications are suspended until further notice. He, however, says the decision doesn’t mean the closure of Burundian borders. “The measure has been taken to prevent COVID-19 outbreak in Burundi”, he says. It was in the meeting with diplomatic corps and consular representatives, this March 19.
The Minister also says COVID-19 is already reported in the neighboring countries. Then, he adds that each country must impose precautionary measures following the prevailing situation.
Thaddée Ndikumana, Minister of Public Health also indicates that the quarantine measures continue to be respected by all travelers from infected countries.
“There is no suspected case in Burundi until March 19 but the country continues to impose preventive measures”, he says adding that Burundi is now well equipped to screen suspected people thanks to technical and financial partners. The Health Minister also indicates that the quarantine measure will be reviewed to enlarge the sheltering places.
