Audace Niyonzima, Commissioner General of Burundi Revenue Authority-OBR says the revenues collected have significantly increased since the implementation of taxpayer’s day in 2016.
“The taxes collected have moved from BIF 637 billion in 2016 to BIF 754 billion in 2017,” says OBR Commissioner General adding that there has been an increase of 18% thanks to the raising of public awareness on the regular payment of taxes.
Mr. Niyonzima also says OBR expects to collect BIF 800 billion in 2018 following the fiscal conformity. “Taxpayers have understood the importance of paying taxes. The fight against corruption and goods smuggling has also contributed to the increase in the revenues that were collected,” he says.
Audace Niyonzima says the taxpayer’s day will be celebrated on 5 December in Makamba southern province. He says it will be an opportunity to raise taxpayers’ awareness of the issuance of the invoice to the customers after selling goods. “When there is no invoice, it’s an offense which costs 20% of the value of the goods,” he says.
