In a meeting that she held with University representatives this 23 January 2017, Janvière Ndirahisha, Minister of Education and Scientific Research reminds that evening education in the universities has to be cancelled. She says the Bachelor Master’s Doctorate (BMD) system was implemented to promote and enrich education.
Minister Ndirahisha says she is ready to combat this kind of learning because it is unjust and does not follow academic rules and regulations. “I oppose evening education because students do not study accordingly. Soon or later, this kind of learning will be cancelled”, she says.
She wonders how someone can be working in the country and has enrolled in a university at the same time.
Ndirahisha also wonders how a student can learn during the weekend and get a diploma in few years.
As for Gaspard Banyankimbona, the rector of the University of Burundi, education is not just a diploma but rather knowledge: “The diploma is just a paper, what is important is what one knows”.
Banyankimbona also advises all the concerned people to get adapted to the BMD system as it has already been implemented.
