AOMA satisfied with political situation in Burundi

In a meeting that was held in Bujumbura this July 12 in Bujumbura, the executive committee of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association –AOMA says it is delighted with the socio-political situation prevailing in Burundi.

“AOMA supports the report of the African Union Council on peace and security in Africa held on July 2nd, 2018 during the African Union Summit which believes that the situation is improving,” says Busisiwe Mkhwebane, AOMA deputy chair.

Busisiwe says the social security would urge the European Union to normalize its relation with Burundi and thus lift economic sanctions.

She encourages the president of of Burundi to do whatever it takes so that all Burundians in exile should return home.

During this meeting, the Burundian ombudsman, Edouard Nduwimana has been elected to temporarily chair the AOMA as its former chairperson from Ethiopia was appointed Minister in her country. The first deputy president of the association is from South Africa, the second from Cote d’Ivoire and its secretary from Kenya.

The meeting of the executive committee of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association was attended by 13 African country members. The association’s chairperson will be elected during the general Assembly to be held in November 2018.
