Bwiza residents report that two grenades exploded in the night of September,19 around 8pm on the 3rd Avenue, in Bwiza neighborhood of Bujumbura capital center. “A police pickup truck was on this avenue. Suddenly, we heard a grenade explosion. After a few minutes of silence, another one exploded. We closed the shops immediately, “said a shopkeeper met on the spot where the attack took place. He said they were not able to identify the criminals because everyone rushed to hide in their houses. The police confirm that information.
According to Moise Nkurunziza the deputy spokesman of the Police, a police driver had parked the vehicle outside his home on the 3rd Avenue. Criminals threw a grenade under the vehicle which was slightly damaged. Nkurunziza mentioned that there was no one inside. Bwiza residents tried to pursue the criminals but the latter threw a second grenade to disperse them. The attack perpetrators took advantage of darkness to run away. The deputy spokesman of the police indicated that they carried out a search and seizure operation early this morning in Bwiza neighborhood, but nothing suspicious was found. “Investigations are still ongoing” concludes Nkurunziza.
