Newly constructed presidential palace handed over to Burundian Authorities

The Ambassador of China to Burundi has officially handed over the presidential palace to the Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Second Vice President this February 14, 2019.

The new presidential palace is built in Gasenyi in the north of the country’s economic capital

Li Changlin, says it is a pleasure to hand over this presidential palace which is built in Gasenyi area in the north of Bujumbura, to the government of Burundi. “It is a symbol of friendship and cooperation between China and Burundi,” says Li Changlin.

Mr. Li says this is palace which has been built for two years and half is one of the greatest projects that China has ever carried out in Burundi.

He says other projects are ongoing. “China has made available a dozen of translators to put Burundi national development plan into Chinese language so as to clearly see in which domain it should intervene”.

Ezéchiel Nibigira, Minister of Foreign Affairs says Burundi is pleased with the relations between China and Burundi as testified by such projects. “Since the independence of Burundi, we have not had such a building. We thank the government of the Republic of China for it”.

Mr. Nibigira says this building will house the president ‘office and its staff.
In December 2018, the two countries celebrated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between them.
